Manchester United defender Brandon Williams appears to be inhaling from a balloon while in the passenger seat of a car in new photos taken near the club’s training ground.

In photos seen by the Daily Star, and carried by The Sun, the 22-year-old appears to have have a balloon to his lips while travelling in a Mercedes Brabus supercar with a pal.

It is not clear what Williams was appearing to inhale from the balloon. Frequently people have used balloons to contain nitrous oxide which can be used to give a short-lived euphoric high. It is currently a criminal offence to supply nitrous oxide as a means to get high, but not to possess it.

Home Secretary Suella Braverman recent pledged a crack down on the use of the gas as an inhalant, calling it 'unacceptable'.

She said: "I am clear that the use and proliferation of nitrous oxide is unacceptable and we will be announcing new measures soon."

Williams, who made his first-team debut at United back in 2019, has only played five minutes of football under Erik ten Hag this season having slipped down the pecking order.

The full-back spent last season on loan at Norwich in the Premier League, making 26 appearances as the Canaries were relegated to the Championship.

Williams, who has made more than 100 career appearances as a left-back and 19 as a right-back is currently behind Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia in Ten Hag's plans.

Ten Hag said of the former England youth international back in February: "It's also a little bit up to him but I like him.

"We have to work with him and see where his developments can go.

"That is also about him, to find the moment where he can deserve his chance and take his chance. But when he wants a loan, we have to talk about that."
